Stuff to think about....

I went to lunch today at Compasspoint's Kopitiam. I went there after tuition so I was alone. It was crowded but I managed to buy my lunch and found a seat. While I was eating, I noticed this sign from a counter, not too far away. The sign said "Tray Return Counter". That made me think about what I was going to do after I finished eating. Return the tray.

I recalled some days ago in the newspapers, there was an article talking about how impolite and uncourteous Singaporeans are. It was a forums page and there were people supporting the call for us to be a little more courteous and return our food trays. Yet there are others who say that we should leave it as it is because we are "creating employment" for those who clean up after us.

What do I think? I think that is absolutely bullshit. NO ONE needs us to create employment. Creating employment is the government's responsilbility. I don't think all of us are uncourteous. Sometimes it has become such a norm to NOT return food trays, that when you start doing it, people stare at you. And people hate being the centre of attraction. That is an acceptable reason. But creating employment? Cmon! No one goes around committing crimes to create employment for the Police. No one spits on the ground or litter to create employment for sweepers. No one chokes himself on fries and burgers everyday just so to create employment for Doctors!

Imagine what if the sign said "Money Return Counter". I bet everyone will flock there.

Stop being a selfish asshole and give lame reasons to justify your selfish being. People who clean up the tables and dishes probably count for less than 0.1% of the workforce. Your attempt to "create employment" is hardly worth a sneeze. I'm not telling anyone to be more courteous. My point is I think its better to keep your senseless opinion to yourself instead of making yourself look stupid.
